The Lab ISD focuses on research areas that support the sustainable development of vulnerable populations at home and abroad, including education, health, rural development, and the social economy.

The lab cultivates an academic community organized around four core orientations: field research, evaluation-centered, outcome-based, and relationship-oriented.

1) Field research
The lab emphasizes field research grounded in the everyday lives of vulnerable groups, seeking pathways to sustainable development through direct engagement with local contexts

2) Evaluation-centered
The lab applies experimental and quasi-experimental policy evaluation methodologies to rigorously assess the effects of diverse social innovation programs and policies

3) Outcome-based
The lab aims to disseminate research that employs rigorous impact evaluation methods by presenting at academic conferences and publishing in academic journals

4) Relationship-oriented
The lab emphasizes fostering regular gatherings, encouraging collaborative projects, and supporting joint research among lab fellows
