Summary of core requirements for completion of master’s program |
---|
1. [Environmental Planning and Design], [Sustainability: Current Issues and Challenge], [Reading and Research], and [Subject for Liberal Education] 3 credits(must include [Research Ethics]) are required courses for all Master’s students in GSES. One of [Environmental Planning and Design] and [Sustainability: Current Issues and Challenges] must be completed. |
2. [Environmental Planning and Design] is offered in every Spring semester. [Sustainability: Current Issues and Challenge] is offered in every Fall semester. [Reading and Research] is offered in every semester. For [Subject for Liberal Education], 3 credits are required and [Research Ethics] must be included. Therefore, it is necessary to finish 3 courses, including [Reading and Research], to complete or graduate, within a minimum of 4 semesters depending on individual circumstances in order to complete or graduate. |
3. Completion and graduation are distinct concepts. Completion refers to registration for a minimum of 4 semesters, completion of one of [Environmental Planning and Design] and [sustainability: pending issues and challenges], completion of [Reading and Research], and taking 3 credits of [Subject for Liberal Education](including [Research Ethics]), and grade point average of 3.0 or higher in total credit hours of 33 or more. Graduation refers to passing both comprehensive examination and thesis defense in addition to above requirements for completion. |
4. Disadvantages exist for failing to achieve requirements for completion. A minimum number of registrations is 4. That is, a minimum registration is 4 semesters. If failing to complete the requirements for completion within 4 semesters, tuition for the 5th semester will be proportional to the number of credits taken (Example: registration for 3 credits means 50% or higher of tuition, 4 credits or above means full tuition). In particular, Individual Studies is not to be taken only in the thesis phase of the program. After fulfilling the requirements for completion within the first 4 semesters that require registration, registration as a research student (tuition of 200,000 Korean Won per semester) is possible for further work on thesis. |
Doctoral Program
- For credits on coursework, students must attain 36 credits or more, maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and complete the required coursework as outlined in GSES internal guidelines on the doctoral program.
- The maximum number of credits per semester is 12 credits.
- [Reading and Research] can be taken for up to 12 credits (only once per semester): registration is allowed only with approval from the course instructor
- The minimum number of credits completed in the Department of Environmental Planning is based on the credits completed in [Reading and Research].
- Minimum credits ≥ (36 credits or more - [Reading and Research] credits) × 0.5 (applicable to students admitted to the program after the spring semester of 2021)
- (Applicable to students admitted to the program after the spring semester of 2022) Must acquire at least 3 credits of [Subject for Liberal Education] from the Faculty of Liberal Education (Completion of [Research Ethics] is compulsory and maximum 6 credits can be accepted. Note that this subject is not included in credits completion by the Department of Environmental Planning)
[Notice]
- (For students admitted prior to the spring semester of 2018) [Reading and Research] can be taken for up to 3 credits, and up to 18 credits recognized for acquisitions from other departments.
- (For students enrolled from the Fall semester of 2018 to the Fall semester of 2020) [Reading and Research] can be taken for up to 12 credits, and up to 18 credits recognized for acquisitions from other departments.
- (Applicable to students admitted to the program after the spring semester of 2021) The minimum number of required credits by the Department of Environmental Planning varies depending on the credits completed in [Reading and Research].
- (Applicable to students admitted to the program after the spring semester of 2022) Must acquire 3 credits of [Subject for Liberal Education] from the Faculty of Liberal Education (Completion of [Research Ethics] is compulsory and maximum 6 credits can be accepted. Note that this subject is not included in credits completion by the Department of Environmental Planning)
