Special lecture is happening by Professor Wang with the title of "A Data-Driven Perspective for Intelligent Urban Planning" Professor Pengyang Wang is an Assistant Professor in the State Key Lab of Smart Cities and Internet-of-Things at the University of Macau. His research interests are in data mining, machine learning and big data analytics, especially in representation learning for Spatial-Temporal Graph-Structured data, with applications to smart cities, transportation, user/system behavior modeling, critical infrastructure defense, and complex network analysis.
Urban planning is an interdisciplinary and complex process that involves public policy, social science, engineering, architecture, landscape, and other related fields. Effective urban planning can help to mitigate the operational and social vulnerability of an urban system. Traditionally, such tasks are completed by professional planners. However, personal experiences and skills of planners are likely to bring biases as well as unreasonable operations into the plan solutions, which may raise severe issues in urban systems. The recent advance of big data and artificial intelligence motivates us to ask: “Can machines learn the hidden patterns of urban systems, and automatically generate data-driven urban plan solutions?” In this lecture, Professor Wang will introduce his recent work on automated intelligent urban planning.
