제목: The System Benefits of Distributed Storage in Electricity Markets with High Penetrations of Wind Generation

발표자: Tim Mount, Professor in the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, Cornell University, USA.

Abstract: The objective is to present a new analytical framework to demonstrate 1) how adding storage capacity to a network can mitigate the variability of wind generation and increase the system benefits by flattening the daily profile of conventional generation, and 2) how distributed storage (deferrable demand) can also flatten the daily load profile and reduce congestion on the network. In a competitive market, all participants should pay for the services they use and get paid for the services they provide using prices that represent the true costs. Two types of storage are considered. One represents utility-scale storage that is collocated at the wind sites, and the other represents an identical amount of deferrable demand located at load centers. An empirical analysis is based on simulations using a multi-period, stochastic, Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow (SCOPF) and a reduction of the network in the northeastern states in the USA.
