Short Bio:
Dr. Si Chen is a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Geography at Texas A&M University. Dr. Chen earned her Ph.D. in Urban Informatics through the Schools of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she worked as a research assistant and associate director for the Landuse Evolution and impact Assessment Modeling Lab. She also obtained a Master of Computer Science and Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her B.C. in Engineering was earned from the Department of Urban and Rural Planning and Design at Tongji University.
Dr Chen’s research focuses on creating systems and methodologies that apply advanced data analytics to coupled urban and natural systems to support smart and sustainable development in the urban ecological context. Specific topics include urban informatics, spatial analysis, planning support system, accessibility, and sustainability. Dr. Chen has published multiple peer-reviewed journals on high-impact journals, such as Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, Travel Behaviour and Society, and Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science.
