Students in the Urban and Regional Planning (UR P) program explore diverse planning issues for a livable and sustainable built environment. As most people in Korea now live in urban areas, planning and design of cities, towns and regions are of utmost importance for the well-being of the people and continuing prosperity of the nation. To meet this educational challenge, the UR P major provides a wide range of specialized courses including physical planning, land use, housing, real estate, community planning, urban renewal, infrastructure planning, economic development, regional development and international planning. Students are encouraged to acquire a high level of knowledge in the principal areas of urban and regional planning. Also encouraged is the development of high-level capability in policy analysis, creative planning, and critical reasoning. At the same time, students are given opportunities to acquire necessary planning and research tools such as GIS, communication skills and other quantitative and qualitative methods.<\/p>
As the first planning program at graduate level in South Korea, UR P is considered to be the country\u2019s top planning program and has produced many of the most important leaders in virtually every front of academia, government, policy think-tank and private sectors. Indeed, since its government-initiated inception in 1968, the program\u2019s history is inseparably intertwined with the history of Korea\u2019s urban and regional policies. Faculty members are extending this tradition of leadership and excellence through innovative teaching and research as well as through various advisory activities to local and national governments. Student body is comprised of students with equally diverse undergraduate backgrounds ranging from architecture and urban planning to social sciences to humanities, reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of the planning profession itself.<\/p>","c_mission":"
